Why does the industry keep trying to fit into other industrys box?

So does"Every other industry have a rating system"?

Zagaat is an independent survey of places to eat. Not social.
Trip Advisor? How does that parrallel agencies?

Social rating is always a slippery slope to gameing the system. Look at whats going on in Yelp. Forgive my pessisism but how many emails do you have? So really, how hard is it to create an alternative id to leave a positive or nasty comment on yourself or a competitor? And monitoring stuff like this is a full time job and more than likely cost prohibitive. Bad idea.

In our local community this is electiion time for City Council. You can not imagine the outright hateful, personal attachs, lies, and comments being left on editorial blogs, most of them done by city employees trying to protect the dictator empire. Mr. O'Keefe is right on, you can trash anyone you want or praise yourself. By the way, the newspaper told me they would NOT release the identity of the attackers and that there is no relief in the court system.
So why would this be any different? How many of you fill out the surveys you get after you purchase something online or get tech support etc? Why would anyone take the time to do that other than a self serving action?

Why couldn't consumers use the Better Business Bureau to research their agent?
