Re: 'Consolidation, collaboration breaking down MLS walls' (Aug. 21)

Dear Editor:

One point that seems quite relevant to me is that more and more brokers are dangerously offering and more and more sellers are insisting that their properties be put on craigslist, which as of now is free (in most cases).

If this continues there will be no charge to list a property and it will be fully exposed immediately to the entire world market.

This will lead sellers to conclude that they could do it (expose their own property to the entire world) themselves and thus no longer need any Realtor or other type of real estate agent on the selling side to put their property on the MLS. Besides, why should they pay for what they can get for free?

It is almost one of those things like "be careful what you wish for" or in this case what you think that you are trying to prohibit.

It is like thinking that your kids will not try drugs, cigarettes, unsafe sex, etc. Yeah, sure! Our sellers will never abandon us; that is unless they can get the same service for free.

By the way, I think that this will happen within the next 18 months and not within the next five years.
