Re: 'California Realtors weigh options for statewide MLS' (June 27)

Dear Editor:

Having a statewide MLS system is just more bureaucratic nonsense we will have to deal with. There is not much in the way of accountability now with the local MLS systems so I can just see what a mess it will be in the future. Our local MLS is pushing hard to merge with others, but the members have different ideas and are being very vocal in their dissent. One more time ... real estate is local.  more...

Rebate ban chokes competition

Protectionist. That's the ugly word that comes to mind with respect to a new law in Tennessee that bans cash rebates to buyers and sellers in real estate transactions. Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen signed the ban into law this month at the behest of the Tennessee Association of Realtors and despite opposition from the U.S.  more...

Re: 'Tighter lending rules could backfire' (June 25)

Dear Editor:

Jack almost hits the "real world" situation right on the head. I can only speak for my actions, but when assisting someone with less than two years' self-employment, bankruptcy, judgments/tax liens/etc., my sole purpose in doing a 2/28 or 3/27 or any "Band-Aid" loan is to allow the borrower time to get away from the bankruptcy/late payment/etc.  more...

Re: 'Sellers: Iggys House offers free MLS listing' (June 18)

Dear Editor:

I wonder how well all these discount real estate, free listing services and rebate real estate platforms understand that if it were not for the full-service traditional real estate companies charging what we do, that there would be nothing for them to give back? Does anybody see where this whole thing is going?

Re: 'Sellers: Iggys House offers free MLS listing' (June 18)

Dear Editor:

I love these companies that expect to receive a fee by having another agent do their work for them. The big tip-off about their service should be that they don't require a buyer to obtain a preapproval letter to submit an offer unless the buyer actually wants to see the home.  more...

Re: 'Recommendations fall short for affiliated-business troubles' (June 11)

Dear Editor:

Ms. Geffner claims that affiliated business arrangements are "payoffs," which are "inherently" anti-consumer and "sickeningly flawed." Those choices of inflammatory words are tip-offs that she either is an advocate for one side of the debate -- small title agencies -- or that she simply does not understand the affiliated-business concept, especially those that involve real estate brokerages.  more...

Re: 'Rentals Web site files lawsuit over licensing requirement' (June 13)

Dear Editor:

Are all the newspapers published in Missouri required to be licensed if they display real estate rental ads?

If Kansas City Premier Apartments is simply accepting a fee for ad placement, the Missouri Real Estate Commission will not stand a chance in federal court.
