BREATHE EASIER IN FLORIDA: Reducing Greenhouse Gases

BREATHE EASIER IN FLORIDA: Reducing Greenhouse Gases

As of the 16th of July 2008, a Memorandum of Understanding was drawn between the United Kingdom’s Carbon Trust and the State of Florida. The memorandum, signed in London by Michael Rea, COO of The Carbon Trust and Governor Charlie Christ, is summarized as follows:

The State of Florida, like the United Kingdom, has embarked upon a process to increase its energy security and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases know to be the cause of global climate change. Florida has proudly entered into a Partnership Agreement with the United Kingdom to work toward a global solution for combating climate change while fostering our mutual economic, cultural and political ties.

The Carbon Trust, established by the UK Government in 2001, is an independent company limited by guarantee whose mission is to accelerate the move to a low carbon economy by working with organizations to reduce carbon emissions and develop commercial low carbon technologies. This memorandum details a cooperative agenda for mutual assistance in developing and disseminating innovations in business models, finance, and insights that will benefit our respective economies and the global climatic balance.

The Carbon Trust and the State of Florida will carry out the following actions:

1. Share expertise and insights into developing a low carbon economy in our respective economies.

2. Cooperate in developing strategies for the establishment of initiatives and organizations within our respective economies to hasten the transition to low-carbon economies.

3. Share knowledge and expertise in fostering the development of innovative business models and financing mechanisms to expedite investments in renewable sources of energy and energy efficiency within our respective economies.

4. Commit to exchange delegations to the extent that this is permitted by the resources of our respective organizations for the purpose of implementing the cooperative agenda outlined above.

I believe that initiatives like these from Florida’s governor to improve not only our environment, but the world’s, make me proud to be a Florida resident and it’s a further endorsement that living in Fort Lauderdale is like living in paradise.

Very best from South Florida,
Julie Jones

Dear Joan---
You're welcome. As a British emigrant, I am proud of the role England will play in this endeavor. We've come a long way from the Boston Tea Party!

Very best,
Julie
